MAKO Medical donated $10,000 to the Vance County Public School Foundation (VCPSF) for the 2022-2023 school year to support Learning that Extends Actual Performance (LEAP) Grants. Along with that donation, came a community challenge: the North Carolina-based laboratory company will match all future 2022 donations up to an additional $10,000.
“We are so grateful for the financial support and the confidence that MAKO has in the work we are doing in Vance County Schools”, said Superintendent Dr. Cindy Bennett. “Every dollar donated will support the experiences and engaging opportunities our teachers will design and share with our students. MAKO has again demonstrated their amazing support for this community!”
LEAP Grants support Vance County School teachers’ by providing resources, enriching innovative experiences, enhancing classroom opportunities and expanding instruction to engage students. Grants are awarded annually to Vance County Schools’ teachers. In 2021, 5 teachers were awarded LEAP Grants, supporting projects to enrich Vance County School students’ classroom experiences.
“Helping teachers in the classroom is a wonderful way to invest in your community”, said Josh Arant, Chief Operating Officer, MAKO Medical. “The past two years have been hard on students, teachers and their families. We want to help support our educators and inspire innovation in Vance County. I hope other individuals and companies will join us.”
The district will begin accepting applications from Vance County Schools teachers on March 25. The LEAP Grant committee will evaluate and select teachers to receive the funding. The VCPSF will provide an additional $10,000, totaling $20,000 available for LEAP Grants for the 2022-2023 school year. Grants will be awarded to teachers during Convocation in August.
